Privoro releases SafeCase ONX™ for ultimate protection against phone tracking and surveillance

CHANDLER, Ariz., April 25, 2024 – Privoro, a next-generation mobile security hardware company, today announced the release of SafeCase ONX™ (Onyx), a first-of-its-kind product enabling phone users to reliably turn off their device’s tracking and surveillance capabilities at any given time.

A high-security controller designed as a discrete phone case, ONX builds on Privoro’s partnership with Samsung that was announced last year. Leveraging a hardware-to- hardware integration with Samsung’s flagship phones (starting with Galaxy S23), ONX provides secure, chip-level control of tracking-enabling radios and surveillance-enabling cameras and microphones. This architecture ensures that even if the phone has been compromised, radios and cameras/microphones can’t be reenabled by the attacker, only the ONX user.

ONX addresses the fact that everywhere they go, smartphones leave behind a trail of digital breadcrumbs that provide a shockingly intimate look at an individual’s habits and associations. In the hands of a threat actor, this location data can aid in malicious activities like surveillance, profiling and targeting, all of which can be done remotely, at scale and without risk of detection.

“Unfortunately, location tracking is by design an inescapable feature of using one’s phone, thanks to its cellular, WiFi and Bluetooth radios, which can’t be reliably turned off through the phone’s operating system,” said Mike Fong, founder and CEO of Privoro. “ONX serves as a reliable on-and-off switch for these radios so that location tracking becomes virtually impossible.”

Unlike Faraday solutions that attempt to deny location tracking by physically blocking wireless signals and thus rendering the phone unusable, ONX allows the phone to remain accessible to the user while its radios are assuredly disabled.

ONX also addresses the risk that spyware on the phone can silently hijack the device’s cameras and microphones to surveil the user, which is possible even if the phone’s radios have been disabled.

“ONX is a powerful antidote to advanced mobile threats like spyware and radio-enabled espionage,” added Fong. “For the first time, phone users can go with confidence knowing that they’re not being digitally followed or spied on through the device that never leaves their side.”
